Do you think a president who has served in Congress would be more effective?

Congressional experience is an essential component of success in working with the legislative branch. Many of our recently-elected presidents have strolled into Washington and had no idea how to deal with the snake pit that is Congress. Bush has struggled to gain support for many of his plans in Congress, especially since the Democrats regained the majority. Our new president needs to have experience with Congress in order to successfully negotiate with them and serve as a mediator in partisan disputes. To gain any kind of support in Congress, a president has to be willing to compromise on some issues and settle for a moderate position for the sake of getting things done on Capitol Hill.
